So you have XDM/KDM or GDM installed? Great. Most probably an icon "Enlightenment" will appear in your session list just after you finish your E17 installation. If you don't see it, then copy the file $PREFIX/share/xsessions/enlightenment.desktop to one of these folders:

GDM

/etc/X11/gdm/Sessions 
/usr/share/xsessions
/usr/X11R6/share/gnome/xsessions

KDM

/usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions
/usr/local/share/apps/kdm/sessions
